The background is Regulation:
(EU) 2016/1628 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 14 September 2016 on requirements relating to gaseous and particulate pollutant emission limits and type-approval for internal combustion engines for non-road mobile machinery, amending Regulations (EU) No. 1024/2012 and (EU) No. 167/2013, and amending and repealing Directive 97/68/EC.
This regulation also includes mobile power generators with or without wheels, and power generators which drive or supply mobile machinery.
As a rule, the engines are equipped with additional waste gas purification systems, depending on performance. These include diesel particulate filters, oxidation catalytic converters, and an SCR catalytic converter wit a urea injection unit. In this way, the engines become a great deal cleaner via the reduction of soot/dust, CO2 (carbon dioxide), and NOx (nitrogen oxide.)
The main reason for decreeing the new standard is to improve the air quality, but especially to protect the health of persons who work with diesel engines on a day-to-day basis. To protect their long-term health, the emission of hazardous pollutants is to be reduced significantly. Units with particulate filters emit more than 90% fewer soot particles, i.e. one non-purifying genset emits around 100% more particles than a genset with a cleansing function.
Nitrogen oxides additionally contribute to ozone formation; the after-effects are known.
For the consumer, the only change is the refuelling of urea, which is already known to apply to trucks and buses. Nowadays, the provision of supplies is possible everywhere, with no limitations.
We have prepared ourselves intensively with the change in technology, and have adapted all of our mobile gensets to the clean version. We have drafted the best solutions together with our engine suppliers in order to directly provide our customers with clean gensets.
